Our program, specifically for high school students, provides an introduction to the fashion design process, from conception to garment completion. The curriculum is a taste of SFD’s adult certificate program and is taught by our expert faculty. If you are interested in fashion and sewing as a hobby or are considering post-secondary fashion degree programs, this is the program for you!
The curriculum is designed to take you from design to finished product with no prior experience necessary. Students will get an overview of the entire process while walking away with a strong foundation of skills. Whether you're a fashionista or want a career in fashion, this is the course for you!
By the end of the program you will have created: a fashion garment from a pattern, a mood board, and fashion plate illustrations of an original garment collection.
Throughout this program you will learn: how to take measurements, the safe and correct operation of an industrial sewing machine, textiles and materials sourcing, design development, pattern manipulation, sewing and garment construction skills, design theory, fashion terminology, inspiration sourcing, and fashion garment sketching.
Cost: $1,100 = $975 for tuition & $125 for supplies.
Fashion Prep for High School Students - Combined Intensives in Fashion Art and Garment Construction: Through guided practice, students will build, pose, and style their own fashion croquis figures to use in original design sketches. An introduction to visual design and theory will aid students in developing their ability to find inspiration, design a cohesive collection of garments, and render them in color using professional techniques. Students will also get hands-on practice learning the garment making process from start to finish. Beginning with learning to safely use a sewing machine, students will be introduced to industry-standard pattern drafting methods, textile science, and finishing techniques.
