EF Gap Year – The Global Gap Year (Two Semesters, 24-Weeks) Recently Updated

The Global Gap Year is your passport to a full academic year abroad, 24 weeks of language learning, cultural deep dives, and unforgettable adventures.  This program is perfect for students who want to level up their language skills, explore the world, and grow in ways that go way beyond the classroom. 

Semester 1 – Multi-Country Experience (12 Weeks):

Students choose from curated tracks that explore multiple cities and countries, each with a language or regional focus. Examples include:

European Horizons – Explore cities like Barcelona, Paris, and Rome

East Asian Odyssey – Visit Seoul and Tokyo

Spanish in Motion – Focus on Spanish in Tamarindo, Malaga, and Barcelona

The Globetrotter – A wide-ranging, multi-country experience

Semester 2 – Single-City Immersion (12 Weeks):

After a winter break, students spend the spring semester living in one international city of their choice. This semester emphasizes deeper cultural immersion and personal independence.

Possible cities include: Barcelona, Malaga, Paris, Nice, Rome, Berlin, Munich, Tokyo, Seoul, Tamarindo, and Singapore.

Students live with a local host family or in an EF residence and continue structured language classes while engaging more independently in the community.

Our Global Gap Year Program starts at $36,000 and includes:

Interactive language classes
Language classes offered at all levels in each location visited.

Activities & excursions
2-3 cultural activities per week, and 1 overnight weekend excursion or extended day trip per location during your first semester.

Flights & Transportation
Internal flights and transfers between locations, including airport pick-up.

Room & board
Accommodations in an EF Student Residence during your first semester, and choice between an EF Homestay or a Student Residence during your second semester.
