    Overview

Explore the mysteries of our solar system and beyond in the Boston Leadership Institute’s Planetary Science program. Study space exploration missions, analyze satellite and Webb telescope images, and investigate how planets form and sustain life. Ideal for students interested in astronomy or astrobiology, this hands-on course blends physics, biology, geology, and chemistry to tackle big questions about the universe.

The Boston Leadership Institute’s Planetary Science program invites students to explore the fascinating science behind our solar system and the expanding universe. Using data and imagery from satellites and the James Webb Space Telescope, participants will study planetary systems, space exploration missions, and the remarkable features of planets and moons—such as the volcanoes on Jupiter’s moon Io, ice on Mercury, and supersonic winds on Uranus.

This interdisciplinary course integrates astronomy, geology, physics, biology, and chemistry, providing a well-rounded approach to understanding planetary environments and the unique ability of Earth to support life. Students will engage in lab studies, examine real space images, and build theoretical models to investigate key questions in astronomy and astrobiology.

Designed for curious minds passionate about space science, the program offers hands-on learning and the chance to explore recent discoveries—like the Webb telescope’s confirmation of an Earth-sized exoplanet just 41 light-years away.
