Easter Seals is a national nonprofit providing services for people with autism, developmental and physical disabilities, other special needs, and for veterans and their families. For over 75 years, Easter Seals Greater Houston has supported individuals of all ages through therapy, education, training, and community programs that help people with disabilities live, learn, work, and participate fully in daily life.
ESGH's Youth Action Council (YAC) is a student-led council that promotes community leadership and involvement among Houston-area youth while supporting the mission of Easter Seals Greater Houston. Their fundraising and program support make a real impact on our clients. YAC members have raised over $600,000 to date through our Walk With Me event in support of our Veterans Services, particularly for our Veterans' Service Dogs. Any high school student in the Greater Houston area who can commit to attending 4 meetings and participating in Walk With Me is welcome to join as a High School Delegate. YAC delegates also regularly participate in other agency volunteer opportunities, including bowling with our Adult Program on Saturdays and serving as counselors at Camp Smiles and Camp Buckaroo.
YAC activities include:
- Develop and conduct outreach efforts to sustain and grow YAC
- Provide practical experience in the various roles volunteers play in a nonprofit organization
- Encourage students to impact their community through leadership and service
- Raise funds for YAC efforts through a youth team for ESGH's annual Walk With Me fundraiser
